wine cellarage ideal conditions
Australians love to enjoy good wine. It is just a joy to open a bottle that you have carefully nurtured, but joy turns to bitter disappointment if the wine has been damaged by being stored in less than optimal conditions.
Storing your valued wine at home is just not a good option without ideal cellar conditions. There are essentially 4 enemies of good wine development:
1. Varying or extreme temperature
No matter where you place it, the temperature could vary by up to 20 degrees , whether it is under the floor or the stair, the bed, wherever. The wine gets warm then cold, warm and cold, day in day out. It degenerates quite quickly and loses all of its vibrancy.
2. Fluctuating humidity
The humidity varies widely and the cork swells then retracts and so on. The wine is exposed to small amounts of air and can deteriorate quite quickly
3. Light
Extreme light can damage the wine soon rendering it second rate.
4. Vibration
Having wine in a location where there is regular movement also increases the deterioration of your wine.
Ideal Conditions
At The Winebank at Guardian we maintain temperature at 15 degrees Celsius(+/- 1 degree) and humidity at 65%(+/-2%). This is recognised as ideal for the development of wine ensuring constant temperature, humidity, no vibration and darkened conditions. Whether it is cork or screw cap bottles, both benefit from this treatment. All our cellars are ventilated to allow even airflow and prevent any concentrated light to affect your wine.
